In this research project I – Dide – collaborate with Marieke van den Brink, Laura Dobusch and Maddy Janssens to study the possibilities and limits of organizing inclusivity in service sector organizations. I turn to ethnographic fieldwork in order to capture the mundane activities in a highly diverse airport security company. In an ethnography, one relies on the fieldnotes – detailed descriptions of the surroundings, participants, and scenes-in-action – as empirical material. For me, turning to poetry helped me to tap in to the chaotic and affective spheres of the scene rather than describe my participant observations in an authoritative, linear and rational way. For a special issue for Organizational Aesthetics, Noortje and I discuss and (re-)write these fieldnotes into two poems (click here for the full paper).
